Rome in the summer of 1980. The young Franco brakes free from the social misery in his family home. He hangs about the big city and earns money as a hustler. Because of his dark skin he is named “er moretto”, “the moor”.
Simon Bischoff’s film debut is a stylistic firework with interviews, quotations and references to Thomas Mann and Federico Fellini, and montage sequences made from black and white stills – in short: a film style willing to take risks that maybe not everyone will like, but hardly anyone will forget even 30 years after it’s making.
